Firecation 2: To the Hilt
The second firecation occurred further in the depths of Virginia. The trip took a lot longer than usual for most. This is how the concept of Firecation North came about. Allowing the group to get together in fall as well as the spring. Firecation North would be closer to most of the participants and make it easier for others to come and go more freely. The weekend seemed colder than the previous year and some were not prepared for the colder weather. The location had a creek in the back near the firepit, a hot tub on the deck, and a screened in room over looking the firepit and creek.
During the first firecation and as we were discussing the second trip, it was decided that we would do a Whisky tasting. All were encouraged to bring a bottle of whisky to try. We winded up with a lot of bottles. Along with the whisky tasting books were given out to enter notes. There were feats of valor and strength. Men hung onto the side of a running creek while dipping their bottom in the water. We had the redamation of the shamed who took on many roles during the festivities. There were nature walks to look for birds and other nature.
The mascot of firecation was discovered. Dirty Sparrow brought a toy figure of Mr. Potato Head dressed as a fireman. Mr. Potato Head helped us with our whisky tasting. He also helped us build a fire and offered many suggestions. Unfortunately, he must have drank a little too much whisky and winded up setting himself on fire. Mr. Potato Head will forever be our mascot and in our hearts.
The gifts that were given this trip were given in the theme of Bourbon. There was the whisky tasting book as well as a liquid soap with a Bourbon Barrell sent. Yes, it smelt wonderful. There was a sticker given to the participants that was of the theme "I'm In" as well as the Shame sticker. The shame sticker was applied to the mug of shame and given to the shamed during a ceremony. The shamed did redeem themselves by the end of the trip as discussed. There were books given by Dirty Sparrow. He collected them over the year as he was walking down the street in his city in the give one take one book boxes on the street. He collected ones that made him think of the person that he gifted the book to. The books did sync very well with the receivers personality and events happening in their life.
Although, there was games and drinking to be had, the trip had its share of controversy. There was an abandoned run-down shack onsite which was investigated and thought to be haunted. There was an incident between two people who were sharing a room. One left earlier than expected and left a "gift" for the other person in the room. We can only speculate what actually happened since neither will talk about it to this day.
